Church of S. Maria della Misericordia

Categories: Churches and Places of Worship

The church bears the date of the dedication on the portal (mid 16th century). As reported by the writings of Palma, it belonged to the Confraternity of Mercy with two altars: to the SS. Rosario and to the SS. Name of God. Built with the adjoining hospital in 1348, the year of the "Great Plague".

The pious association had the obligation of mass on holidays and until 1769 temple with Royal Assent and Amnesty to the Rules of the King of Naples. The canvas depicting the “Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple” by Giovan Battista Boncori from Campli was originally on the high altar. In a niche there is a clay statue of St. Anthony of Padua, from the Nocellese school.
